Fincially motivated malware doesn't target Linux, much like investment bank fraud doesn't happen in the Harlem ghetto.
That's the excuse. In fact it's a lot harder to hack linux because it has user permissions built in, as it was designed as a multi-user system that some users are going to try to hack.

So there we have it, folks. The reason Linux will always be relegated to the dungeons of basementdwellerdom can be seen right here in this thread: Every single bug encountered in a Linux distro, regardless of whether it is due to something simple such as drag&drop or something more complex like replacing the UI, devolves into rounds upon rounds of name-calling, finger pointing, insults, and "not it".

Oddly, tho, no windows user in this thread ever admitted Windows has bugs and crashes as well.

Of course all software has bugs, it's just with linux there still seems to be problems with the basics.
It's not a 50/50 chance like in Linux. You can also easily roll back, not search a forum for some assholes to tell you to RTFM before finally downloading some source from a european site, recompiling it, changing a conf file, running a command, etc. to fix the problem.
sorry, but if you find that basic stuff difficult you shouldn't even own a computer.
I don't find it difficult. I find it to not be worth my time.
It's not hard to start a fire with a bit of flint and steel, yet most folk use matches or a lighter. Linux is flint and steel, Windows is a lighter. Mac is someone standing on a street corner asking if anyone has a light.

There's plenty of help to get within message boards. I've been using ubuntu since version 9. I like the fact that if I have a bad file all I need is a internet connection to repair it. I don't need some cd and a access code or someone elses to hack in order to fix it. I like the fact that libre office is built in. I like the fact that software sources is easier to use then regedit.
Windows 7 I think is actually kinda decent...but why pay for software at this point? Yes there are some higher ended products out there. Final Cut Pro on a mac is nearly $1,000 for the software alone.

It's kind of hard to win this argument. I have a lot less problems with linux than windows, but then I was using xenix in the 80s. Obviously you're not going to have the same luck.

That's the big problem. I'd have to spend 4 grand on software to replace my linux desktop with a windows desktop.

When i try to use Linux it always ends with editing strange text files in /etc. I had problems with ISDN cards and audio cards. Low resolution of the X desktop. Not being able to start VNC server before login. Pictures looking bad in Firefox. Mice not working. Difficult to change to scandinavian keyboard. You have to be very lucky to get DVB-S2 and video capture cards to work with linux.

It's always stupid, niggling problems that plague linux on the desktop.

Ubuntu was the only shot linux has or ever will have at normalcy.
The ubuntu foundation got loaded up with mac fags, who instantly derailed ubuntu's success and turned it into a useless piece of shit with a Mac color scheme.
If you are still tinkering with it on a desktop, please kill yourself. Use something else FFS. If you really actually need linux for something, then you should be running a headless server with webmin and putty.
In other words, Shuttleworth decided to create a Trev-hostile version of Linux that would appeal to mere mortals.
Sounds like Ubuntu is doing exactly what they should be doing.

You couldn't get the machine in China operational either.

I wonder how many windows machines out there got shut off when the FBI finally turned off the fake DNS machines that fuckwits were using.
The reason to use linux is it is much much easier to administer than windows. With windows you have to actually know what you are doing to set your computer up for household file sharing, print serving etc. With linux you just download the relevant programs and start them up. Mac is obviously better but Apple likes to fuck their user hard with proprietary hardware and control over what software options are avaliable. Normal people don't find that acceptable.
The system locking crash in ubuntu really is atrocious. I don't know what to tell you. This seems typical nowadays; I would not invest any time in this OS until it shows signs of improvement.

. Windows is free for most users.
. Linux and Windows appear to be about equally reliable.
. There's a 100000x more apps for Windows.
. Windows has far more support for peripherals.
. Windows is more dangerous for use on the web.
About right? Therefore buy a Windows box and use a LiveCD for any web browsing that matters.
